What this visa gives you.
The UK Skilled Worker Visa replaced the Tier 2 (General) visa in 2021. It lets you live and work in the UK for an approved employer for up to 5 years, with the ability to extend or switch employers as long as they’re also licensed sponsors.
After 5 years of continuous residence, you can apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain — permanent settlement in the UK. Your partner and children under 18 can join you as dependants on their own visas, with the same rights to live and work.

Job offer from a licensed sponsor
Your employer must hold a valid Skilled Worker sponsor licence. We verify this before you apply.
Salary meets the threshold
Generally £38,700 per year or the going rate for the role — whichever is higher. Some shortage roles qualify at lower thresholds.
English language — B1 level or above
Proven via an approved test (IELTS, etc.), a degree taught in English, or nationality of a majority English-speaking country.
Certificate of sponsorship
A reference number issued by your employer — not a physical document. Included in your online application.
Financial requirement
£1,270 in savings held for at least 28 consecutive days, unless your employer certifies they’ll cover your first month.
